After nearly 10 years leading ac.care, our Chief Executive Officer Shane Maddocks has announced that he will retire from the role in November as part of a planned transition.
During Shane’s time as CEO, ac.care has strengthened its early‑intervention focus to help country people avoid crises, expanded support options to meet growing demand, deepened community and business partnerships across regional South Australia, and matured as an organisation to ensure stability and flexibility into the future.
Reflecting on the decision, Shane shared that the time felt right to step back after a rewarding decade of service.
“After nearly 10 years leading ac.care, I’m proud of how far we’ve come together – not because of me, but because of the staff, volunteers, carers and communities who’ve walked beside us,” Shane said.
“I retire confident that ac.care’s future is strong, with a clear mission and a team deeply committed to ensuring every country person has a safe home, enough money to live on and strong, positive relationships.”
Board Chair Rick Fisher acknowledged Shane’s contribution and the stability he has helped build.
“Shane’s commitment to our mission, our people and the communities we serve has left a lasting legacy. His leadership has guided ac.care through significant growth, challenges and change, and positioned the organisation strongly for the years ahead,” Rick said.
The Board has begun the recruitment process for ac.care’s next CEO, supported by Hender Consulting, with an appointment expected later this year. A structured transition plan will ensure a smooth handover as we continue strengthening our impact and meeting the evolving needs of country communities.
