ac.care is pleased to share that Stephen Green has been appointed as our next Chief Executive Officer, following a thorough recruitment process led by our Board.
Steve will formally step into the role later this year on October 12. Our current CEO, Shane Maddocks, will continue to lead the organisation during a planned transition period ahead of his retirement in November, ensuring stability and continuity for our staff, partners, carers and communities.
Steve joined ac.care in 2024 and currently leads our People, Strategy and Impact portfolio. He brings extensive leadership experience across child protection, out-of-home care, youth justice, corrections and community services.
Prior to joining ac.care, Steve held senior government roles including Director of Residential Care with the Department for Child Protection and worked alongside country communities across South Australia for many years.
Steve is well respected across the state human services sector and is currently Treasurer on the Child and Family Focus South Australia Board. He is guided by a values-led, collaborative approach grounded in relationships, respect, and walking together with First Nations people – listening properly, honouring culture, and working in partnership to create better outcomes for children, young people, families and communities.
Reflecting on his appointment, Steve said he feels honoured to lead ac.care into its next chapter.
“ac.care is special because of its people – the staff, carers, volunteers, partners and supporters who carry our work every day,” Steve said.
“As incoming CEO, I feel a real sense of pride and responsibility to honour our history, build on the momentum already created and help prepare ac.care for the future.
“The needs of our communities are changing, and we must keep evolving too – being open to new ideas, looking for opportunities and working together so our services continue to make a real difference across regional South Australia.”
Board Chair Rick Fisher said the Board was confident in Steve’s leadership and the direction ahead.
“Steve is a highly regarded human services professional who brings deep experience, strong values and a genuine commitment to regional communities,” Rick said.
“The Board was impressed by his vision for ac.care’s future and his focus on people, partnerships and impact. We are pleased to appoint a leader who understands our organisation so well and is ready to guide ac.care through its next phase.”
Rick also acknowledged Shane’s ongoing role during the transition.
“Shane will continue to lead the organisation over the coming months to ensure a smooth handover. We look forward to recognising his decade of service later this year.”
The Board’s recruitment process was supported by Hender Consulting.
All ac.care services and programs will continue as usual throughout the transition, with no disruption to the support we provide across regional South Australia.
