THE ac.care Millicent Community Centre is celebrating 25 years of supporting and connecting the local community, alongside a special milestone for longstanding centre coordinator Evonne Lambert, who is also marking 25 years with ac.care.
For a quarter of a century, the centre has provided a welcoming place where people can connect, learn new skills, access support, share experiences and spend time with others in their community.
What began as a local initiative has grown into a well-known community hub, shaped by the people who visit, volunteer and work there.
Located in the heart of Millicent, the centre has continued to evolve alongside the community while remaining focused on what matters most: creating a place where people feel welcome, respected and supported.
ac.care chief executive officer Shane Maddocks said the centre’s success has always been grounded in relationships.
“For 25 years, the Millicent Community Centre has been a place where people know they will be welcomed, listened to and treated with respect,” Shane said.
“That sense of belonging doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built through genuine relationships, community spirit and the commitment of people like Evonne, who have dedicated themselves to walking alongside others and strengthening our community.”

Since joining ac.care in 2001, Evonne has played an important role in the centre’s growth, working alongside staff, volunteers and community members to create opportunities for people to connect and participate.
Reflecting on the milestone, she said the achievement belonged to many people.
“I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built together over the years. I’ve been fortunate to work alongside dedicated staff and volunteers who care deeply about this community,” Evonne said.
“Seeing the difference a welcoming space, a listening ear or a chance to connect can make in someone’s life is what has always motivated me.”
Shane said Evonne’s commitment had left a lasting impact on the community.
“Her leadership, passion and care for local people have helped shape not only the centre, but the experience of countless community members who have walked through its doors. The trust she has built over 25 years is a remarkable achievement.”
The milestone was also an opportunity to recognise the many people who have contributed to the centre’s success over the past 25 years.
“This celebration belongs to the community as much as it does to ac.care,” Shane said.
“The centre has always been strongest when local people have come together, shared their ideas, offered their time and supported one another.”
Community members are encouraged to visit the Millicent Community Centre to learn more about activities, events, volunteering opportunities and support available through the centre.
Whether you’re looking to meet new people, learn something new, get involved in your community or find support, the team would love to welcome you.
