COUNTRY agency ac.care officially opened our new Percy Street site on Friday morning, bringing together community members, partners and supporters to celebrate a space created to better serve people across the Limestone Coast.
We welcomed staff, Board members, Anglican parish representatives, service providers, local businesses, civic leaders and families connected to our work for a breakfast event outside our new head office and Mount Gambier Family Relationship Centre. The gathering reflected the strong community effort behind the development of this site and the shared commitment to supporting people across the region.
This year marks 40 years since ac.care was founded in Mount Gambier as a local response to community need. Returning to a central location in the city where we began is a meaningful milestone for us, honouring our history while looking toward the future.
A highlight of the morning was the ribbon‑cutting ceremony. The ribbon was made from hand‑drawn paper links created by children and young people living in care, symbolising connection, community and the many hands involved in supporting local families.

Long‑serving staff member Amanda McKinnon, young person Sarah, long‑term foster carer Trudi Reilly and community supporter Barry Stafford joined our Board Chair, Rick Fisher, to cut the ribbon, recognising the diverse voices and experiences that shape our work.
Mr Fisher reflected on the evolution of ac.care across its 40‑year history during his community address.
“For the first time in ac.care’s history here in Mount Gambier, we have been able to carefully and thoughtfully design a space for our work.
“This gives us the foundation to continue delivering quality services for people who need our support now and into the future.
“Thank you to each and every person who has made a contribution toward bringing this facility – and our vision – to life.”
Our Out of Home Care executive manager, Shalini McCarthy, shared how the co‑location of our Mount Gambier Family Relationship Centre, Out of Home Care services and corporate staff has strengthened collaboration and shared expertise.
“Collaboration is at the heart of what we do, and this building has been designed to foster just that – encouraging communication, teamwork and innovation.
“Working together allows our teams to respond to complex needs, share knowledge, deliver stronger outcomes and strengthen community partnerships.
“This space reflects growth, renewal and our commitment to supporting children, young people and families.”
